Monitoring the Jagiellonian University Alumni’s career

What is our aim?

We wish to follow up on the professional careers of JU Alumni in order to modify teaching/learning programmes to the needs of the labour market.

The survey provides information available to the University authorities and to those in charge of a particular University unit.

How do we act?

Monitoring of JU Alumni’s careers has been conducted since 2006. Originally, the project was coordinated by the Career Office (now the JU Career Services). Since 2013, it has been coordinated by the Section for Education Quality and the project is called Monitoring JU Alumni’s Careers. A panel technique is used for each year group to observe the dynamics in changes in Alumni’s careers. The same respondents from a given year group, i.e. representatives of the population are requested to fill in a questionnaire twice: once 6 months after their graduation and then a few years later.

Every graduate is eligible to take part in this survey. The questionnaires are sent to those who gave their prior consent by filling in a questionnaire for Alumni (formularz dla absolwentów). Sometimes a more direct contact is advisable – here is a telephone number for contacts with JU Alumni: (12) 663 39 61

The monitoring of the Jagiellonian University Alumni’s career is realized as a quantitative survey via the internet (CAWI), where a link to a questionnaire is sent to those registered on a pre-prepared list of email addresses. Questionnaires are intended to be filled in by Alumni themselves.

Polish monitoring system of economic development of alumni of schools of higher education

In May 2016 the Ministry of Science and Higher Education established a project for monitoring the economic development of alumni of schools of higher education, which is based on administrative data from two sources: the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) and the Integrated System of Information on Science and Higher Education (POL-on). The data provide an insight into the economic situation of Polish graduates of schools of higher education. This, in turn, enables the comparison of the economic development of JU graduates with graduates of other schools of higher education Poland.

The database is available here: www.absolwenci.nauka.gov.pl

For comparison of data from various Polish schools in higher education, analysis of data within the same fields of study is recommended.
